FOOD 2030 Conference
Brussels, Belgium, 12 - 13th October 2016

Peter Schuler (it-objects, Germany) and Paul Newell Price (ADAS, UK) presented the VALERIE project at the FOOD 2030 Conference on “Research and Innovation for Tomorrow's Nutrition and Food Systems” on 12th-13th October at ‘The Square’ (Mont des Arts – Kunstberg) in Brussels. They demonstrated the ask-Valerie.eu ‘virtual adviser’ tool and discussed project outputs with conference delegates. The VALERIE brochure was available in six languages to mirror the multi-linguality of ask-Valerie.eu.

Delegates were impressed with the tool’s functionality; particularly the ability to search and retrieve documents simultaneously in specific languages selected by the user. Any language can be added to the system by translating the VALERIE ‘ontology’ (i.e. structured vocabulary) of agricultural and forestry terms. The demonstration sessions culminated in a visit from Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation and Phil Hogan, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development.
